How I Checked This Review
Merlin changes its plans and model list often, so I rebuilt this review from sources I could check instead of repeating older pages.
- Merlin’s pricing page and Terms and Conditions, as read by independent reviewers in September and October 2026.
- Merlin’s Chrome Web Store listing: 900,000+ users and a 4.8 rating from about 8.8K ratings, version 8.3.0 as of early October 2026.
- Three independent reviews (eesel, AI Toolbox and Prompt Architects) that disagree on a few details. Two of them sell competing browser tools, so I used them only for numbers Merlin itself publishes.
One honest limit: I haven’t stress-tested the daily cap myself. Wherever a figure comes from Merlin’s terms rather than my own usage, I say so.
Merlin AI Pricing: Free vs Pro vs Teams
Here are the three plans side by side, read from Merlin’s pricing card in September 2026. Always confirm the live numbers at checkout, because Merlin edits these often.

Annual billing saves roughly 35% against the monthly price, which matches what Merlin advertises. Three details trip people up.
- $19 is a yearly price. You pay $228 upfront. Month to month, Pro is $29.
- The Teams minimum is inconsistent. The visible card says 2 seats. Elsewhere in the same page’s data there is leftover copy about 5 seats and $900 a year. I’m going with 2, but check before you buy for a group.
- Discounted promo tiers exist. Merlin’s FAQ mentions cheaper annual-only plans (reported at $5 and $2 a month) with the same features but lower caps. I couldn’t confirm they’re offered to everyone.
What You Really Pay Per Message
Pro sells you the same $19 no matter which model you use. What changes is how many messages Merlin lets you send. These allowances come from Merlin’s own September 2026 comparison table, and I did the division.

Allowances are a September 2026 snapshot. Model names have moved up since, so treat the tiers as the point, not the labels.
The takeaway is blunt. Someone who defaults to the top Claude model pays about 20 times more per message than someone who runs an open model, for the same subscription fee. Your default model decides whether Pro feels cheap or tight.
Merlin vs Paying for Three Subscriptions
The usual pitch is that Merlin replaces ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro and Google AI Pro (the new name for Gemini Advanced). On list price, the gap is real.

Vendor prices change. Each direct plan also has its own usage limits.
The catch is what each dollar buys. Direct subscriptions give you the vendor’s full app and its newest features. Merlin gives you one login and a dollar-capped allowance across all of them. The Fair-Use Cap: Where “Unlimited” Stops
This is the detail I’d want to know before paying. Merlin markets Pro as unlimited on Basic models, and that is true per model. But the account sits under a dollar ceiling that is written in the Terms and Conditions, not on the pricing page.
Section 12, titled “Right to Terminate Usage Temporarily”, says a standard paid account that costs Merlin more than $100 in a month loses service for the rest of that month. Cost more than $16 in a single day and service stops for that day.
Two things follow from that.
- The cap is measured in what the models cost Merlin, not in messages. Heavy use of an Opus-class or high-reasoning model burns through it much faster than a Flash-class model.
- Merlin’s FAQ says you can buy top-up credits after hitting a limit. I couldn’t find a published price for them or a rule for how many credits a call uses.
Most casual users will never see the cap. A researcher running long documents through the priciest model all day might. That is the person who should read the terms before choosing an annual plan.

Merlin is an AI chat platform, browser extension and mobile app that puts several models behind one login. Its Terms and Conditions name Foyer Tech as the operating company.
You can use it as a web app, an extension for Chrome and Edge, or an app on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. The extension opens a sidebar on any page with Ctrl+M on Windows or Cmd+M on Mac.
It has traction. The Chrome Web Store listing shows 900,000+ users and a 4.8 rating from about 8.8K ratings. That is a solid base, though it is far from the “10 million users” figure some older reviews repeat without a source.
Key Features
Models: Fast-Moving, So Check the List
The lineup changes monthly. In September 2026 the pricing table listed GPT-5.2, Claude Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6, Gemini 3.0, Grok 4.1 and open models. By October, reviewers were reporting GPT 6.1 Sol and Claude Opus 5.5 as Pro-only models.

Context Window and Deep Research
Per Merlin’s own September table, Pro offers an input context of up to 100K tokens and up to 5 Deep Research queries a month. The same table lists Claude Pro at 200K+ tokens.
That matters for book-length PDFs. Merlin is easy to use for a 30-page report, and a worse fit for a 400-page manuscript where you want the model to hold everything at once.
Video Generation and Video Summaries

My read: Merlin wins when your use is wide and light. It loses when your use is narrow and heavy.

One more flaw comes from other reviewers rather than my own use: pasting Merlin’s output into Google Docs does not always keep the formatting clean. It is minor, but it adds up if you draft a lot.

Conclusion
Merlin AI is good value for people who actually use several models and want one bill. At $19 a month on annual billing, it costs about a third of three separate subscriptions.
It is a weaker deal than it looks if you live in one premium model. The monthly counts and the $16 a day, $100 a month cost caps are the real limits, and they are easy to miss on the pricing page.
My advice: start free, then pay $29 for one month if you hit the daily limit regularly. Move to the $228 annual plan only once you know your default model fits inside the caps, because the refund window is just 3 days.
